The word sapphire comes from ‘Sapphirus,’ the Latin word for blue. Adding to that, ‘Sapheiros’ is the Greek word for blue. Infact, the best sapphire shade is known to be the medium-deep cornflower blue. Typically, sapphire are known to be blue, however, do you know that they come in a variety of gorgeous colors such as grey, yellow, light pink, orange, green, violet, and brown, which are called the fancy sapphires (except red, which is classified as ruby).
One of the most famous sapphire is known to be on the Imperial State Crown, which was worn by Queen Victoria in 1838. The gem is called St. Edward’s sapphire because it once belonged to Edward the Confessor.
Sapphire symbolizes purity, wisdom, loyalty, and trust. It is the favorite gemstone of priests and kings, which is believed to guard the person against harm, envy, and evil.
May this month be as enamoring and radiant as it’s birthstone! Happy September!
